Prime Minister Anthony Albanese
The Hon Anthony Albanese MP
Prime Minister of Australia

JOURNALIST: Obviously the topic on everyone’s lip is the tariff. I mean, how we going with those negotiations or speaking with Mr Trump?

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Well, we know that the US has a trade surplus with Australia. We have zero tariffs of any US goods into Australia, and Australian steel is making a positive difference to the US economy by putting roofs on houses, by making a difference there in the US as well. BlueScope, aren't just investing here in Australia. They're also investing in the United States, $5 billion of investment at plants across the states, across many facilities as well. It is in both Australia and the United States interest to have economic cooperation, and that's what I am endeavouring to achieve. And we had a great discussion this week with President Trump.

JOURNALIST: And you have your shining new candidate there standing beside you. Are we going to win Whitlam?

PRIME MINISTER: We do, Carol Berry's a fantastic candidate for Whitlam, and it's a great start to her campaign here. When you think about the Illawarra, you think about the steel works here. This is the heart and soul of the Illawarra. And of course, Whitlam is the heart and soul of the Labor Party. So we want this steel works to be successful. And I know that Carol will be successful as well.
