ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: I want to thank James and Lou and young Rommie for welcoming me into their home this morning here in Dulwich Hill in my electorate of Grayndler. They bought here in 2021 so yesterday is the first time that they've seen a rate cut, and that will make an enormous difference to them. They get some relief by the fact that interest rates are now going down.

KELLER: We were just talking about the coffee intake of some of America's presidents. Right up there was Teddy Roosevelt, who would have, they say, around a gallon of black coffee or four litres of coffee.

O’BRIEN: Okay, so terrific news this afternoon for people paying off their mortgages. What does this indicate again about the battle against inflation?

GARY ADSHEAD, HOST: Finally, an interest rate cut, a quarter of a per cent, the first since 2020. What does it mean for you? Are you relieved? 1300 222 720. ADSHEAD: It's been a while. You must be delighted at this decision.

ELLEN FANNING, HOST: Well, all eyes around the country were on this decision today, not least from the Prime Minister himself. This was seen politically as crucial for Anthony Albanese's hopes of reelection that the Reserve Bank cut interest rates. Today, as I was sitting and listening to Michele Bullock speaking, my phone rang. It was the Prime Minister's office. This was at about 20 to 3 before I came on air. ‘Would you like to speak to the Prime Minister?’ Well, on your behalf, of course, the answer is always yes.

OLIVER PETERSON, HOST: For the first time in four years, the Reserve Bank of Australia has cut the official cash rate from 4.35 per cent to 4.1 per cent, with all the major banks already following through and passing that on to you. The Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese joins me live on 6PR this afternoon. Prime Minister, welcome back to the program.

CLINTON MAYNARD, HOST: Well finally the Reserve Bank Board has made a decision to cut interest rates. This is the first reduction in the official cash rate Since November of 2020, when we were in the pandemic. The cut is from 4.35 per cent to 4.1 per cent. Now, this is good news for the Prime Minister. He may well be dancing right at the moment. Anthony Albanese joins me. Mr. Prime Minister, you must be happy.
